What are the requirements of an IWA cheerleader?

We make no cuts at tryouts, everyone from beginners to advanced athletes are welcome! We encourage well rounded athletes, so if you are interested in other sports, clubs, or activities you can still participate in cheerleading. We cheer at home volleyball and basketball games. In addition, we will have our own Summer camp held by NCA at IWA, where we can earn a bid to NCA nationals. If so, 12-15 selected athletes will compete and represent IWA at nationals in Dallas, TX at the end of January. 

What does IWA cheer participate in?

Our program cheers at home volleyball and basketball games. We follow both teams for the duration of their season through districts, sectionals, and state. Our athletes are asked at tryouts which teams they would like to be selected for: Competitive/Alternate, Sideline, or both. Individuals placed on the competitive team are required to attend extra practice in the Fall and Winter leading up to Nationals in January. Sideline athletes are required to attend practices in the Fall for home Volleyball games, and/or practices in the Winter for home Basketball games. 

How do Tryouts work?

Tryouts will include 3 days of evaluation of skills. These are skills you already have as an athlete, please do not choose this time to attempt a new skill. Throughout the three days, athletes will work on jumps, stunts, tumbling, learn the school fight song, a chant, and dance.  The final night athletes will be asked to show their skills for a final evaluation in a group of three, a headshot will be taken and everyone will be sized for a uniform. More information to come about tryout specifics!
